Spring 2020 Conference Information

Where is the conference?

The conference is at Saint Louis University at the Busch Student Center. All breakout sessions will happen in buildings near the BSC, so no students will need to cross Grand.

Why is the conference in the spring – I thought it was moved to the fall?

Another large event booked the entire SLU campus during their fall break (when we hold the conference). Since we have overall been quite happy with the accommodations SLU has provided for us, we did not want to search for a new venue and instead chose to move this year’s conference to the spring. Our plan is to return to the fall next school year.

What is the schedule for the conference?

While we are still coordinating speakers, here is the tentative schedule for the day’s events:

  • 8:30-9:00: Check-In
  • 9:00: Welcome
  • 9:15-10:15: Keynote
  • 10:25-11:10: Session One
  • 11:20-12:05: Session Two
  • 12:15-1:00: Session Three
  • 1:00-1:45: Lunch

What is the cost of registration?

Current members of journalismSTL can register for $12 per person. Non-member registration is $20.

Do we have to stay for lunch?

No. You can register for the conference only, without lunch for $7 per person ($15/person for non-members).

Will we receive paper copies of session schedules this year?

We will continue to use the Yapp app for the conference schedule, as we have the past few years. Encourage your students to download the app prior to attending the conference. A digital copy of the schedule will also be sent to advisers in advance and you are welcome to print copies for your students who need one, but we will not have paper copies available for students at the conference. Download the conference schedule app here.

Why do I have to pay the registration costs for students who do not attend?

We base our lunch order on the number of people who register for the conference. Even if someone doesn’t show up, we still have to pay for the food we ordered for them.
