Logan Crews of Kirkwood High School is the journalismSTL Bruce Schneider Memorial Leadership Scholarship recipient for 2019.
Crews is the editor-in-chief of The Kirkwood Call and plans to attend Trinity University in the fall, where he will pursue a double major in geosciences and French.
In addition to leading the Call staff, Crews also served on the executive board of the staff’s Suicide Awareness Week efforts.
In his letter of recommendation, Dr. Michael Havener, principal at KHS, said he is proud of the strong character Crews exhibits.
“Not only does Logan strive to achieve academic excellence, but he always modestly goes out of his way with his brightening smile and gentle encouragement to ensure the success of his fellow students as well,” Havener said.
His adviser Mitch Eden agrees.
“Logan is quite possibly the best writer I have had the pleasure of advising,” Eden said. “Never shying away from the tough topic, Logan was a strong voice and advocate for many people. His leadership was on display every day through his actions and writing.”
Bruce Schneider was a beloved St. Louis Scholastic Journalism Adviser who passed away in 2004; his leadership skills and love for journalism are passed on through this scholarship where students who excel in the journalism field as leaders are recognized and honored for their hard work and dedication.
